BENCHMARKING |

MOTIVATION
From the standpoint of competitiveness, it is important for our customers to know how their devices perform compared either to others of their devices (for instance older generations) or to third parties' ones, both in terms of construction efficiency and performance.
From an IP (Intellectual Property) enforcement perspective, potentially infringing constructions can be identified using our reverse engineering techniques.

PRESENTATION
The benchmarking service includes different activities:
- Construction analysis (Reverse engineering): these activities are usually carried out to expose the construction of a given device. It is particularly useful to ensure the absence of patent infringement for instance.
It consists in disassembling the device, identifying its components as well as the probable assembly steps, either through destructive or non-destructive processes. Our CAD capabilities help documenting the results in a clear manner.
- Construction comparison: different constructions of devices can be compared and rated based on key performance indicators. This type of comparison is particularly useful when it comes to evaluate how efficient a given package is, compared to similar devices, as it also shows in which direction the construction can be optimized for greater efficiency.
- Performance measurement (Benchmarking): Besides from the construction analysis, the measurement of the device performance can also be performed. This is used to check the content of a datasheet, or to evaluate untested / undocumented characteristics of the device.
Associated with the construction analysis, the performance actually achieved can be correlated with the construction. This helps our customers identify where the weak points in the design are, and how they are impacting the performance of the device.
For further information about our measurement capabilities, please visit the page dedicated to our LAB TESTING services, or get in touch with us.
- Performance simulation: the correlation between the identified construction on the one hand, and the measured performances on the other hand, set the basis for additional "what-if" type of simulations, which can evaluate the change of performance induced by a change of the construction.
For more information about our simulation capabilities, please refer to our SERVICES - ENGINEERING
- Performance comparison: one or several customer's devices are measured against a reference device (either from the customer's own portfolio of products, or from third parties). This type of measurement is usually performed using automated systems (to ensure the repeability of the measurement) and/or using parallel measurement systems, for simultaneous testing.
